Jenny Barwise ~ President 402 E. 3rd Street South Pam Arnett ~ Vice President Oldtown, ID 83822 Tina Campbell ~ Treasurer Pam Davaz ~ Secretary September 15, 2009 The meeting started at 2:45 pm. Present: Pam Arnett, Tina Campbell, Linda Coffey, Jenny Barwise, Launa Lewis, Susie Luckey, & Pam Davaz The Minutes were read and approved Treasurer’s Report: Checking - $1569.10, Silver Eagle - $4025.16, & Student Store - $479.62 Old Business: The basket ball court was poured and it looks great. It ended up costing a bit more as additional cement was needed due to lack of soil for fill. The pancake feed which was to be scheduled during the Spokane to Sandpoint Relay on August 15th did not happen. Race officials never returned our calls. Pam Davaz was to look into coming up with step by step instructions to register current Verizon Wireless users to Idaho Hill. Verizon then gives a donation to the school based on customer calling plans. It was more difficult than it first appeared and with all the end of school activities there wasn’t enough time. Pam will contact Rami Fitzmorris for help with this. New Business: Election of PTO Officers was discussed. We will have signup sheets available at Open House on September 24 for anyone interested in running for office. Many of our officers want to step down as their children are getting older and moving on to other schools. Susie will also announce this during the general session of Open House. Pam Davaz will make the signup sheet and will talk with Rami Fitzmorris about t-shirt and tote bag costs so we can sell those during Open House as well. Launa Lewis made a motion to purchase a $25 gift certificate at Ben Franklin to be used in a drawing at Open House. Every parent who signs up for PTO and pays their dues will be eligible for the drawing. Pam Arnett seconded. Motion passed. There was discussion about the best time for PTO to meet. Before school and later in the evening were mentioned as well as keeping it the same. Pam Davaz will add this to the Open House signup sheet. Pam will also contact Elizabeth Rosen at the high school to see if we can get some of the high school students to babysit during the meetings. This will give them some of the community service hours they need to graduate. Jenny Barwise explained the Flower Power Fund Raiser. PTO will receive 50% of all sales. The money we earn will purchase additional security cameras. If we reach a school goal of $500 we will have a school wide ice cream party. Pam Davaz will print up a letter to attach to the flyers explaining everything. We have a limited number of flyers so we will give one flyer to each family. The last day for turning in purchases will be October 9th with a delivery date of October 20th. All questions for this fundraiser will be directed to Jenny. Tina Campbell requested a donation be made to Priest River Has Talent. This event will raise money to help our School Districts Band and Music departments. Jenny made a motion to purchase a $100 sponsorship. Janine Jones seconded. Motion passed. We will also purchase ads in the Priest River Times, Newport/Gem State Minor, and the Nickels Worth asking for gently use instruments for Idaho Hill. Meeting Ended at 3:35 pm Next meeting is October 13, 2009 at 2:45 in the library.
September 15, 2009
The meeting started at 2:42 pm.
Present: Lynn Coplen, Launa Lewis, Linda Coffey, Jenny Barwise, Tallie O’Brien, Susie Luckey, Pam Arnett, Anna Hertzberg, Cheryl Brengle, and Pam Davaz
The Minutes were read and approved
Treasurer’s Report: Was read by Pam Davaz: Checking - $1974.98, Silver Eagle - $4028.30& Student Store - $479.62 Tina also resigned as PTO Treasurer. PTO accepted her resignation.
Old Business:
The Flower Power fundraiser did not do as well as we hoped. We ended up earning $330.50 far short of the $500 goal. There is also an $8.00 discrepancy which Jenny and Tina will work on figuring out. If not PTO will absorb the discrepancy amount since it is so small. Tallie O’Brien’s sister in-law also gave a $30 donation to PTO which Pam Davaz will send a thank you for.
Priest River has Talent is going fairly well. Tonight is adult night and the cost to get in is $5.00 per person. The Grand Finally is set for Saturday, October 24th at 7:00 pm.
The ad in the papers regarding instrument donations to Idaho Hill did not go well. We had one gentleman bring in a child’s violin which was given to Barb in the hopes a child could use it.
There is money in the student store account. Teachers need to decide what they want to use this money for. Each teacher has been given the dates and time they need to fill with volunteers from their class. If they cannot find a volunteer, they need to contact Jenny Barwise.
The membership drive did not go as well as expected. Our membership is down due to the slow economy. Pam Davaz suggested sending home a fly pleading for help. Susie however would like to wait until she speaks with all the volunteers who signed up as she is going to conduct a volunteer orientation on Friday, October 16th at 8:00 a.m. We will work from there as we will need a new treasurer. Also, Pam Davaz would like to step down if someone is willing to take her place.
Pam Davaz did not get a chance to contact Verizon Wireless regarding customer registration of Idaho Hill as school business has been far too busy. She will contact Rami Fitzmorris and ask her to look into this for Idaho Hill.
Pam Davaz did contact the high school regarding babysitters for the afternoon PTO meetings. The only students who would be able to help out would be those getting afternoon leave. The counselor Mike Wright did not get back to her email regarding this matter.
New Business:
Jenny Barwise brought up the Holland’s Opus Grant. This is a grant to help schools purchase musical instruments. The deadline is December 1st and up to $10,000 may be requested. Susie will look into filling out this form and we will see if we can get instruments for the Idaho Hill Band. Marsha Cork is also looking at selling 2 trombones. It is our understanding they are very reasonably priced. The matter will be looked into and brought up at the next meeting.
Meeting Ended at 3:15 pm
Next meeting is November 10, 2009 at 2:45 in the library.
