PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Families,

October is here and the weather is certainly telling us that fall has arrived.  It is very chilly in the mornings so please send your children to school dressed in layers as we have all of our recesses outside.

Our staff was very busy last Thursday and Friday participating in professional development.  We will be piloting new report cards this year, so we met with district teachers to review the draft forms.  We will be asking you for feedback as well, after first quarter.  Our staff also had training on how to build positive relationships within our school community and training on our new math program.  I know it is difficult for parents when children don’t have school; but these two days really help us be better for our students.

This month our students will have the opportunity to participate in two fun activities, our October reading challenge and Student Council elections (grades 4th-6th).  Your child/children should have brought you  the information regarding the reading challenge….all students who reach their goal will be able to attend a movie at the end of the month.  There are different requirements for each age group, so please check with your child’s teacher.  Also, Mrs. Hahn students will have the opportunity to run for a student council office.  Students who would like to run for office must provide 2 letters of recommendation, make 3 posters and post in the hallway, and have a speech written by Friday, October 16th.  They will be giving their speeches to the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade on Monday, October 12th at 12:15 in the gym.  Students will vote and we will announce the winners that afternoon.

This Thursday is our open house and we are very excited for this.  Please join us at 6:00 p.m. for a general session in the gym and then feel free to visit our classrooms.

Thank you for your help in monitoring the kids’ health….this week our attendance is back to normal.

Mrs. Luckey
