Technology News

Over the summer of 2002 the computer lab at Idaho Hill was completely renovated.  We took all the existing tables out replaced carpet, painted and put in new computer stations.  We replaced 20 older computers in the summer of 2003 and 11 more in the summer of 2004. We have been replacing computers on a rotation using Levy money in all the school labs. The lab now has 34 computers to accommodate all the classes at our school.

Mrs. Lewis is the Computer Lab Tech to assist students and staff with computer applications. We are implementing new programs and working  students in during the day to do special projects or finish assignments.

Every class uses the lab weekly and some classes daily to complete projects, work on Phonics programs & Math Programs.  All classes 1 - 6 have Keyboarding class for 50 minutes each week. Kindergarten for 30 minutes each week. The 5th and 6th grade classes have an additional 55 minute lab time each week. Our lab is in use all the time.

The programs our classes are using are Microsoft Office Suite (to include PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Publisher), Kid Pix Deluxe, TypeMaster Pro for 3-6,  Kid Keys typing for K - 2 & Math Facts in a Flash for 1st - 6th grades and we will be using an Intervention program purchased by the state called Plato. This program will be for all K - 6th grade students to help improve in Math, Language, Science and Reading. We are very excited to have the Plato program. We have been planning and training to help the students achieve at their highest levels in these areas.

Internet is used with all students that have an Authorized Use Permission form (AUP) on file.  We have a filtering system in place to block sites students should not be in.  This is working very well.

Every classroom in our school has at least 2 PC's for Accelerated Reader testing and classroom projects.  All are connected to the internet in the classrooms also.  Technology use is encouraged to be part of our curriculum.

Things we are looking forward to adding in the future are:

  • Adding additional internet connections to all classrooms

  • Purchasing AV connections to connect to the TV for instruction in the classrooms (we have accomplished this in most classrooms)

  • Purchasing a Smart Board, portable projector and lap top for instruction in the classrooms

We welcome you to come and visit the Lab any time.

Volunteers are welcome.
